Rarău Mountains

The Rarău Mountains  are located in northeastern Romania. They are famous for sport climbing routes and winter sports. Maximum altitude is 1637 meters.




                                                                The Lady’s Stones (Pietrele Doamnei).
          The “Pietrele Doamnei” natural reservation, one of the most interesting geological formations of the Western Carpathians, represents the perfect destination for those seeking for relaxation . The area is full of chalkstones with corral engravings. In Cretaceous these stones were part of large reefs. 
            The legend says that the King Petru Rares has sheltered here his family; his Lady was often climbing the stones to look for her husband’s return – hence the name “Pietrele Doamnei” – or “Lady’s stones”
            There are two routes to the reservation. One it is from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, or through the villages Pojorata, Mestecanis, Slatioara and Chiril. Camping is possible near to Rarău motel.
      Sport climbing routes
    Sport climbing routes in the massif Rarău reach 110. Rarău is the only climbing area in the country in which all the climbing routes are natural, not adjusted intakes. All routes are furnished with original insurance points, the highest quality and in accordance with global rules applied by countries with tradition in the sport such as France, Spain, USA.
